Check your PTO balance
In the app, open More, then Request time off. The Your PTO card shows what you can still request, your allowance, and what's used or waiting.
If your workplace tracks paid time off (PTO) in Shift Amp, your balance is on the Time off screen in the app. If you don't see it there, your workplace doesn't track PTO in Shift Amp, so ask your manager.
See your balance
- Select the More tab (three dots), then select Request time off. The Time off screen opens.
- Read the Your PTO card at the top. It shows your current PTO year, for example "PTO year Jan 1, 2026 – Dec 31, 2026".
The card has four figures:
- Available to request: what you can still ask for this PTO year.
- Annual allowance: what your workplace gives you this PTO year, including any changes your manager made.
- Approved and used: approved time off that has come out of your allowance, including approved time off that's still to come.
- Waiting on a decision: what your pending requests would use. It's held aside, so it isn't part of Available to request. If a request is denied or you cancel it, the time comes back.
Amounts are in hours or days, whichever your workplace uses. If your workplace gives separate allowances, such as one for vacation and one for sick time, each has its own figures. Your manager sees the same figures as you.
See what changed your balance
At the bottom of the Time off screen, PTO history lists the latest changes, each with its amount and date:
- "Annual allowance" is your allowance for the year.
- "Approved PTO used" is approved time off. "Existing approved PTO at activation" is time off approved before your workplace started tracking PTO. "Approved PTO restored" is time given back when approved time off was canceled.
- "Allowance adjustment" and "Administrative correction" are changes your manager made. The reason isn't shown, so ask your manager if you have questions.
When your manager changes your allowance, you get a PTO allowance updated notification. Open the Time off screen to see your new balance.
Before you request time off
The request form shows what a request would take from your balance: This request, Available now and Would leave. See Request time off.
If the card shows a message instead
- "Your hire date is missing, so your PTO year hasn't started. Ask your manager."
- "Your PTO year hasn't been set up yet. Your manager can sort it out."
