Edit, delete, or report a message
Edit or remove your own messages at any time. Report someone else's message to your organization's admins; it's hidden for you, not for everyone.
You can edit or remove your own messages at any time. If someone else's message is inappropriate, report it: your organization's owners and operations administrators review every report. Managers do this on the web, and employees in the Shift Amp app.
On the web
Edit your message
- In the left menu, select Messages, then open the conversation.
- Point to your message and select the pencil (Edit) at its top right.
- Change the text, then select Save.

Remove your message
- In Messages, open the conversation.
- Point to your message and select the trash can (Remove).
- Select Remove.
Report a message
- In Messages, open the conversation.
- Point to someone else's message and select the flag (Report message).
- Select Report.
Location managers and assistant managers can report messages. Owners and operations administrators don't: they review reports. See Review reported messages.
In the app
Edit your message
- In the Messages tab (the speech-bubble icon), open the conversation.
- Press and hold your message, then select Edit message.
- Change the text, then select Save.
Editing in the app keeps only plain text, so any bold or lists added on the web are lost.
Remove your message
- In the conversation, press and hold your message, then select Remove message.
- Select Remove.
Report a message
- In the conversation, press and hold someone else's message, then select Report message.
- Select Report.
What everyone sees
- An edited message shows "(edited)". You can change its words, but not its photos or PDF. Nobody is notified.
- A removed message reads "Message removed" for everyone. Its text, photos, PDF and reactions are gone.
- A reported message disappears for you alone, and you see "Reported to your admins. This message is now hidden for you." Everyone else still sees it unless it's removed, for example by an owner or operations administrator. The admins see the message and your name.
When a manager removes a message
In channels, owners and operations administrators can remove anyone's message. Location managers can do the same in channels for locations they manage. They use the trash can the same way, and the message then reads "Message removed by a manager".
