Offer your shift to a coworker

For staffUpdated 2 min read

In the app, choose Offer to a coworker from your shift's menu and pick one person. If they accept, a manager approves; if they don't answer, it expires.

An offer asks one coworker to take your shift. Nobody else sees it. Your coworker can accept or say no, and if they accept, a manager still has to approve the hand-off. Until a manager approves, the shift is yours.

Offer your shift

  1. Select the Schedule tab (the calendar icon).
  2. Find the shift, then select ⋯ at the top right of its card. The Shift options menu opens.
  3. Select Offer to a coworker. You see the coworkers who could work the shift, where they're based, and their hours that week.
  4. On the coworker's card, select the button with their first name, such as Offer to Jordan.
  5. If you like, write a note in Add a message (optional). Your coworker sees it, and so do managers if the offer reaches them.
  6. Select Send offer. Then select My offers to follow it, or Done.

Your coworker gets a notification, A coworker offered you a shift, and answers in the app.

Follow your offer

Select the More tab (three dots), then My offers. You can also select View in My offers on the shift's card. Until your coworker answers, the offer shows how much time is left.

  • If they accept, you get Your offer was accepted, and the offer shows Awaiting manager.
  • If a manager approves, you get Your offer was approved. The shift is no longer yours.
  • If a manager denies it, you get Shift offer denied. The shift stays yours.

If they say no or don't answer

Your workplace sets how long an offer waits, and an offer always ends when the shift starts. If your coworker doesn't answer in time, the offer expires and you get Nobody answered your offer. If they say no, you get Your offer was declined. Either way, the shift is still yours.

You can then ask the whole team instead:

  1. In My offers, find the offer.
  2. Select Ask everyone instead.

This turns it into a coverage request that every coworker who can work the shift can claim, and your shift's card shows it. You can do this once per offer, before the shift starts. It also works after you withdraw an offer.

Withdraw an offer

In My offers, select Withdraw offer on your offer. There's no confirmation, and you can withdraw any time before a manager decides. Your coworker gets a Shift offer withdrawn notification.

If you can't offer your shift

Offer to a coworker isn't in the menu if the shift has started, already has a coverage request, swap or offer in progress, or your workplace has turned offers off.

If the app says "Nobody can take it right now", no coworker could work the shift at the moment. Select Ask for coverage on that screen to ask the whole team instead. See Ask someone to cover your shift.
