Start and end a break

For staffUpdated 2 min read

If your workplace tracks breaks, select Start break when you step away and End break when you're back: on your phone, in a browser or at a kiosk.

If your workplace tracks breaks, record each break with the time clock: start it when you step away and end it when you're back. You can take more than one break in a shift. Your workplace decides whether breaks count toward your worked time, and no break is ever taken off your hours automatically.

You can only start a break while you're clocked in. If you don't see Start break, your workplace doesn't record breaks in the app. Ask your manager.

In the app

  1. Select the Today tab (the house icon).
  2. Select Time clock · clocked in.
  3. Select Start break. A message confirms the time, and your status reads On break.
  4. When you're back, open the time clock the same way and select End break.

If your phone has no connection when you start or end a break, see Clock in and out on your phone.

In a browser

  1. In the left menu, select Time clock.
  2. Under On the clock, select Start break.
  3. When you're back, select End break.

At a kiosk

  1. Enter your PIN and select Continue.
  2. Select Start break. The screen confirms the time, then clears.
  3. When you're back, enter your PIN again and select End break.

If your workplace doesn't track breaks, selecting Start break at a kiosk shows "Your organization doesn't track breaks in the app. You can still clock out normally."

If you clock out during a break

If you select Clock out while a break is still running, you're asked to confirm. Select End break and clock out to end both at once. The entry is then flagged for your manager to review, so it's best to end your break first.

Planned breaks on your schedule

Your shift may show a planned break, such as "Planned break: 30m". That's your manager's plan, not a record of your break. To record the break you take, start and end it on the time clock.
